Search guide for L-catfishes
In the Back to Nature L-catfish data base with approx. 400 L-catfishes you can search for L-catfishes that are suitable for your aquarium.

If you for example are looking for L-catfishes that fit in a 200 cm aquarium, like alkaline water, doesn´t need wood in the tank and are herbivore – just fill in these criteria and you will have a list of 22 suitable species.

If you for example are looking for an omnivore L-catfish, that doesn´t need current water in your 120 cm aquarium - just fill in these criteria and you will have a list of 45 suitable species etc. etc.

Then you can go on and take a look on the special description for each species.


SEARCH
Difficulty
On a scale from 1-5, where 1 indicates a very hardy fish and 5 an extremely difficult fish that is more or less impossible to keep in the aquarium


Maximum total fish length (1 cm = 0.39 inches)
Indicates the approx. average maximum size in centimetres of this fish in the nature.


Length of the aquarium in cm (1 cm = 0.39 inches)
Write down the cm length of your tank and species that can be kept in such a tank will be listed.


Diet
What type of food the species mainly eats. Herbivore = green food (algae, plants etc.); Omnivore = a not specialized eater; Carnivore = animal source (molluscs, insect larvae, shrimps etc); Wood eater = eats pieces of wood.


Temperature
Write down the temperature in your tank (in °C) and species that can be kept at that temperature will be listed. (20°C=68°F, 21°C=70°F, 22°C=72°F, 23°C=73°F, 24°C=75°F, 25°C=77°F, 26°C=79°F, 27°C=81°F, 28°C=82°F, 29°C=84°F, 30°C=86°F)


pH
The appropriate pH range.


Current water necessary?
Some species need strong current water, others not.


Wood necessary?
Some species need a piece of wood in the tank to feed on, others not


L-catfish genera
The different species are divided in 39 different genera/groups. Choose genus/group or search among all genera/groups.
